Plot

In the heart-rending tale of "A Child's Wish" (1997), a seemingly ordinary family is thrust into an extraordinary battle against fate. Our young heroine, Missy Weaver (Anna Chlumsky), a lively 10-year-old soccer enthusiast, suddenly finds herself locked in a grim dance with a rare form of cancer, originating from an innocuous leg strain during a soccer game. Her doting father, Ed (John Ritter), becomes the family's unwavering rock during this tribulation, prioritizing his daughter's wellbeing over his professional obligations. His fidelity, however, culminates in an unexpected blow when he loses his job due to his frequent absences—a storm that shatters the family's stability and threatens Missy's chances of survival. Yet, adversity only strengthens the Weavers' resolve. Enraged and driven, Missy and Ed launch a passionate crusade, challenging the heartless law that cost them their stability. Their fight catches the attention of a formidable ally—the President of the United States, Bill Clinton. Inspired by the Weavers' courage and determination, he signs the Family and Medical Leave Act, a beacon of hope for families facing similar trials. "A Child's Wish" is a poignant journey of resilience and love, a testament to the strength of the human spirit in the face of life's harshest trials. Will Missy overcome her life-threatening illness? Will the Weaver family rebuild their fractured lives? The answers lie within the heart of this compelling film.
