In the bustling heart of Madrid, during the early days of the Spanish Transition post General Franco's demise in 1976, the Olmedo family abandons their humble origins for the promise of prosperity in the city. The family comprises of Manolo, a hardworking farmer turned truck worker, his wife Candela, employed in the renowned shopping mall Galerías Preciados, their stuttering eldest son Pepe, spirited daughter Amparo dreaming of a life in Paris, young Rafael - the only child of Manolo and Candela, and Fermín, Candela's senile father. Their dreams of a better future are marred by their new home - a spacious, yet suspiciously affordable apartment at 32 Malasana Street. From the outset, the family's hopes are eclipsed by a series of inexplicable, chilling incidents that taint their new beginning. The malevolent atmosphere of the house thickens when young Rafael mysteriously disappears in broad daylight, seemingly swallowed by the very walls of their home. Pepe finds solace in a peculiar friendship with a young woman across the street, communicating through handwritten messages. Meanwhile, Amparo, feeling the sinister presence in the house, hears Rafael's distant screams from an adjacent empty house, leading to ghastly encounters within its confines. As the police prove themselves useless, the desperate family turns to Candela's acquaintances - the enigmatic old lady Sra. Maruja Dávalos and her quadriplegic daughter, Lola, who possesses spiritual medium capabilities. Warned of the lurking danger, Candela implores them to unearth the secrets of their haunted apartment. Simultaneously, Amparo stumbles upon clues hinting at a dark past associated with their house, entwined with an entity bent on achieving its sinister goal.
