Plot

In the film 11'09''01 September 11 (2002), an international tapestry of narratives unfolds, woven by eleven directors hailing from eleven diverse countries. Each presents an 11-minute short, a poignant exploration of the momentous events of that fateful day in September 2001. From the dusty corners of an Iranian village, a teacher endeavours to illuminate the day’s happenings for her young pupils, while urban youngsters in Burkina Faso mistakenly believe they've glimpsed the infamous Osama bin Laden. In the heart of Manhattan, a deaf Frenchwoman pens a melancholic farewell to a lover who has departed for the World Trade Center that very morning. Faraway in Chile, a man recalls Allende amidst the chaos. As the world grapples with the specter of death, one mother's suffering transcends even the demise of her son. The film oscillates in tone and setting, swinging from the urban to the rural, from the personal to the collective, from sorrow to survival. Most vignettes depict individuals grappling with the shockwaves of the day, yet at least one short boldly stares back at the viewer, mirroring raw tragedy and death. As diverse as the locales and perspectives may be, all are bound by the thread of that singular day, a testament to the global reverberation of 11 September 2001.
