Plot

Dive into the thrilling era of classic television panel games with "What's My Line?", a delightful show that enchanted audiences from 1950 to 1967, producing a staggering 876 episodes. In this captivating game, four celebrity panelists are challenged with the intriguing task of determining a contestant's occupation through a series of questions that can only yield a 'yes', 'no', or a similar response. Each 'no' answer from a contestant enriches them by $5, and the game reaches its climax either upon the accumulation of ten 'no' answers, the panelist accurately unmasking the contestant's secret, or at the moderator's discretion. The show's uniqueness springs from its final segment, where the panelists, now blindfolded, endeavor to uncover the identity of a mystery guest, who skilfully disguises their voice to elude identification. Regular panelists, including the charming Arlene Francis, the sharp-witted Dorothy Kilgallen, and the witty Bennett Cerf, along with a rotation of guest panelists, filled the living rooms of many with their engaging interrogations every Sunday at 10:30 p.m. EST. The show's host, Daly, was always on standby as the emergency mystery guest, but his services were never required. However, he did have the honor of being the scheduled mystery guest for the show's final CBS airing in 1967. After its original run, "What's My Line?" was given a fresh lease of life in 1968 for syndication, with Wally Bruner and later Larry Blyden taking up the hosting reigns. Arlene Francis reappeared for the new version, joined by the amusing Soupy Sales, with Bennett Cerf also making frequent appearances until his passing in 1971. This timeless game show, which was at one point set for a revival by CBS and Pearson TV, continues to be a beloved part of TV history. It still airs as part of Game Show Network's Black and White Overnight programming block, continuing to charm viewers with its unique blend of intrigue and entertainment. So, step into the world of "What's My Line?" and let the guessing games begin!
