Plot

Immerse yourself in a fantastical journey through time to the 7th Century's Carpathian basin, before the unification of Slavic tribes. "The Slavs" (2021) weaves an intricate tale of rivalry and alliance, power and ambition, love and despair, set against the backdrop of the neighboring forts: Big Table and Furnau. Our tale's heroine is Draha (Polina Nosykhina), an anomaly in her time. Conscious and ambitious, she stands out amongst her peers as she embarks on a voyage of self-discovery. Rescuing and taking under her wing a mysterious stranger, Vlad (Juraj Loj), she navigates the currents of power and tribal politics. Gradually, through his heroic feats, this outsider becomes a pillar of strength within the fort, proving invaluable against the looming threat of the Avar marauders. Simultaneously, the show traces the story of Radúz (Tomás Mastalír), the son of Fort Furnau's elder. A skilled warrior proud of his lineage, Radúz harbors a deep love for his gentle wife, Lada (Jana Kvantíková). Their shared longing for a child leads them down a path of despair and desperation, ensnaring them in the dangerous machinations of Carad (Dusan Cinkota), the priest of Fort Big Table. "The Slavs" is more than a historical reconstruction; it's a tapestry of fantasy and the supernatural, rooted in Slovak and Ukrainian folklore, songs, and fairy tales. This unique world, brought to life by the show's creators, invites viewers to lose themselves in its rich narratives and complex characters. A cultural production endorsed by the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine, "The Slavs" promises a captivating journey into a realm where history, fantasy, and folklore intertwine.
