Hanae Ashiya's journey into high school life has been anything but ordinary. His opening week is spent in the infirmary, plagued by a baffling ailment that only seems to worsen. The source of his misery? An enigmatic, fuzzy creature that latched onto him after a chance encounter on the eve of his first school day. As Hanae's health spirals and the creature enlarges, he stumbles upon a flyer promoting an exorcist specializing in banishing youkai. With his back against the wall and his options dwindling, Hanae dials the number, leading him to the Mononokean, a tea room materializing mysteriously beside the infirmary. A grim-voiced man, Haruitsuki Abeno, begrudgingly assists Hanae, but not without demanding compensation. To Hanae's chagrin, he's unable to foot the bill and is coerced into employment at the Mononokean to offset his debt. The kicker? His new employer is none other than a classmate. Navigating this peculiar predicament, Hanae must now team up with Abeno to shepherd a slew of odd, dangerous, and fascinating youkai back to the Underworld, all the while working towards settling his debt.
