In a fantastical alternate universe world, the land of Ravka is threatened by a shadowy phenomenon called “The Fold.” A black curtain of darkness, The Fold harbors monsters and keeps Ravka in a perpetual state of distress and war pitting good people against those aligned with evil. When it is discovered that a teenage girl, Alina, possesses the unique magical power to command and manipulate light itself, the leaders of Ravka realize she may have the power to conquer the wicked blackness of The Fold. Alina is sent on a desperate mission to cross the “Unsea” and destroy The Fold.
