In a post-apocalyptic Japan, a devastating plague-like wind howls, sweeping across the barren, sand-drowned landscape. It leaves in its aftermath a world soaked in rust, consuming both life and the lifeless. The root of this catastrophe is suspected to be spores of a peculiar type of mushroom. Enter Bisco Akaboshi, a notorious outlaw archer carrying the epithet "Man-Eating Mushroom," infamous for his arrows that magically sprout mushrooms upon impact. Behind the criminal facade hides a "Mushroom Protector," a savior who disseminates fungi with a mission to rejuvenate the rusted land and revive its former glory. Teamed up with the crustacean ally Akutagawa and the youthful medic Milo Nekoyanagi, Bisco embarks on a perilous journey across the rust-ravaged expanses of Japan. Their ultimate quest? To find the mythical "Sabikui," a miraculous mushroom with the power to consume all rust, offering a glimmer of hope in the grim, desolate world.
