Odyssey 5 (2002)

In the quiet expanse of space, the crew of the Odyssey, a team of five astronauts and a NASA technician, are preparing NASA's latest high-tech satellite just outside Earth's orbit. Among them are Chuck Taggart, the charismatic mission commander, Kurt Mendel, a witty British science author, Neil Taggart, a brilliant computer expert and Chuck's son, Sarah Forbes, a sought-after news anchor on a mission to document the journey, and Angela Perry, the experienced co-pilot and daughter of a powerful senator. Their routine mission takes a horrifying turn when Earth suddenly ignites and implodes, a catastrophic event that critically damages their shuttle, injures Angela, and claims the life of the technician. As their oxygen dwindles and hope fades, they are saved by a benevolent alien AI known as the Seeker. The Seeker shares a chilling revelation — numerous planets housing civilizations like Earth have been systematically annihilated, and he believes a sinister force is orchestrating these catastrophes to wipe out sentient life completely. In a desperate bid to save their planet, the crew agrees to aid the Seeker. The crew's consciousnesses are transported five years into the past, offering them a chance to uncover the cause of Earth's destruction and prevent it. However, their foreknowledge of the future alters the course of events, leading to unexpected benefits and tragedies. As they grapple with new obstacles in their personal lives, their mission becomes increasingly complex. Chuck struggles to convince his wife of his visions of the future, putting their marriage in jeopardy. His other son, Marc, attempts to win his approval by pursuing a career he despises. Kurt's attempts to exploit his knowledge of the future backfire, while Neil, now a teenager again, navigates high school and an underage girlfriend. Sarah's sole focus is to prevent her son's death from cancer, a quest that causes her husband to question her sanity. Angela confronts doubts about her ability to perform her duty and faces the possibility of being excluded from the Odyssey mission. The crew's investigations lead them to a local diner, their sanctuary where they strategize, unwind, and unearth evidence of a sprawling conspiracy. Their only clue is the cryptic word "Leviathan," which appeared on their shuttle's monitor before Earth's annihilation. Suspects range from human conspirators within NASA and the US government, enigmatic AI beings known as Sentients, and potentially, extraterrestrials. As the plot thickens, the crew must decipher the conspiracy's goals and its link to Earth's impending destruction. The show concludes on an unresolved cliffhanger due to cancellation, but not before revealing some tantalizing answers.
