Ode to Joy (2016)

In the heart of Shanghai's pulsating cityscape, Ode to Joy, a grand architectural marvel, houses a vibrant tapestry of lives on its 22nd floor. Here, five women, each distinct in their own right, find their worlds intertwining as they navigate their personal and professional journeys. Andy, an enigmatic businesswoman played by Tao Liu, forsakes the bustling streets of New York for Shanghai's vibrant skyline in a quest to find her long-lost brother. Her success is marred by her reclusive nature, painting a picture of a woman with a guarded heart and untold secrets. Ziwen Wang portrays Qu Xiaoxiao, a young woman standing on the threshold of her career, privileged yet somewhat spoiled by her affluent family's wealth. She is the embodiment of youth, ambition and the invulnerability of new beginnings. Fang Shengmei, vivaciously brought to life by Xin Jiang, is a fashion-forward HR executive from a multinational corporation. Beneath her stylish facade, she grapples with the shadows of her impoverished past, determined to carve out her own identity amidst the city's glitz and glamour. Qiu Yingying, played by Zi Yang, is a small-town girl with wide-eyed dreams of understanding the city's labyrinthine life, making her the youngest and perhaps the most naive of the group. Completing this quintet is Guan Ju'er, a diligent young woman fresh out of college, portrayed by Xin Qiao. She is on the cusp of adulthood, navigating the corporate world through an internship at a multinational corporation. As their lives intersect, these women find strength in their shared experiences, developing an unyielding bond that becomes their life's ode to joy. Each carries lessons to impart to the others, their friendships growing into a support system they come to rely on in the ever-changing landscape of Shanghai.
