Plot

In the heart of a city pulsating with life and privilege, Ji-Hoon (Lee Seo-Jin) exists, a cynic born of scandal and family politics. Despite his affluence, the shadow of his mother's affair and the abandonment he suffered as a child has left him jaded. His life takes a sharp turn, however, when he discovers his mother's life hangs in the balance due to a severe liver disease - a transplant is her only lifeline. Parallel to Ji-Hoon's narrative is the story of Hye-Soo (Uee) and her daughter Eun-Sung (Shin Rin-Ah), who are locked in a relentless dance with loan sharks, a grim legacy from her deceased husband. As life spirals, Hye-Soo finds employment at Ji-Hoon's restaurant, but a brain tumor diagnosis casts an ominous shadow over her newfound stability. In a twist of fate, Hye-Soo discovers Ji-Hoon's desperate search for a liver donor for his mother. To ensure legality, he plans to marry the donor. Seeing an opportunity to secure her daughter's future, Hye-Soo steps forward, offering herself as the donor. Oblivious to her health crisis, Ji-Hoon accepts, setting the stage for a marriage contract. "Marriage Contract" (2016) is a tale of desperate measures and unexpected alliances, where life's trials are met with resilience, and love finds its way in the most unlikely of circumstances.
