Plot

Born to a nobleman revered for his unshakeable loyalty to the king, Geom's tranquil life amidst blooming plum trees shatters like fragile porcelain when his beloved father, Lee Won Ho, is unjustly accused of treason. The king, paranoid of shadows dancing in his court, executes Lee, mistakenly believing the old adage that 'two suns cannot exist on the same sky'. Concealed within a safe, young Geom witnesses the horror, a sight that sears his memory with painful clarity, yet plunges him into the abyss of amnesia. Rescued and rechristened as Ryung by a benevolent retired thief, Seo Dol, Geom embarks on a life far removed from his noble origins. Fast forward 13 years, Ryung is an audacious rascal by day, stirring up mischief in the bustling marketplace. But as night falls, he becomes a shadowy guardian, a thief with a heart of gold, robbing from the corrupt nobles to aid the impoverished. The return of his suppressed memories, however, sets him on a relentless quest - a thirst for justice for his falsely accused father and his tragically murdered sister, Yeon. With only the emblem on the killer's sword as his compass, Ryung disguises himself as Iljimae, breaching the fortified estates of nobles in search of his quarry. But as he navigates the intricate labyrinth of power and deceit, Iljimae becomes more than a vengeful son. He evolves into a beacon of hope for the oppressed, a champion of the common folk, fighting against exploitation. Yet, buried deep within his noble crusade, the smoldering ember of personal vengeance continues to glow, fueling his quest to unmask the orchestrator of his family's downfall. The saga of Iljimae is a riveting tale of loss, memory, justice, and redemption, set against the rich tapestry of the Joseon Dynasty.
