Plot

In the turbulent era of the 1920s, Shanghai was a city on the precipice, grappling with internal rebellions and foreign invasions. Amidst this chaos, we meet Wu Qian, a street-smart hooligan and adopted orphan of Wu Fatian, whose story of resilience and bravery intertwines with that of Wei Chengfei, a dedicated police officer. Raised as brothers, these two young men share an unbreakable bond and a common life goal - survival. When Wei's grandmother falls ill, their survival instincts kick into overdrive, leading them to The Talented, a perilous competition engineered by foreigners to exploit the Chinese populace. As the story unfolds, we discover Xiong Tian, another Shanghai native, who despite his humble beginnings, owns a sharp intellect and an extraordinary knack for steam-powered machinery. Fate thrusts him into a complex conflict, and he navigates his way to becoming an unexpected champion. In the midst of this power struggle, Wu Qian, Wei Chengfei, and Xiong Tian cross paths with He Hongyi, an affiliate of the neutral study group, Mirror. This unexpected union ignites a brotherhood amongst the trio, fueling their determination to fight for their city and their people.
