In the heart of Victorian-era London, 1887, Hetty Feather's life is an intricate tapestry of adventure, courage, and unyielding friendship. Abandoned by her mother as an infant, she's thrust back into the austere walls of the Foundling Hospital alongside her foster brother, Gideon. This is not a sanctuary but rather a fortress of hardship and relentless discipline under the iron-fist regime of Matron Bottomly.
Yet, within this austere environment, Hetty's spirit remains unbroken. She leads a secret life in the tower, a place of whispered secrets and clandestine plans. Joined by her steadfast friends Harriet and Polly, the trio often rendezvous with Gideon and their covert allies from the boys' wing - Mathias, Ned, and Walter. Together, they form an unlikely fellowship against the oppressive forces that surround them, including the menacing gang leader, Sheila, and her ruthless 'shemob.'
Despite the challenges, the gang's bond only strengthens. They navigate the labyrinth of difficult life within the Foundling Hospital, relying on their collective wit, bravery and most importantly, their friendship. Yet, amidst the array of adventures, Hetty's heart sings a song of longing. A yearning to break free from the shackles of her current life and embark on a quest to find her mother. But the road to freedom is fraught with danger, and Hetty must draw upon her indomitable spirit to navigate this treacherous path.
