Plot

Set against the backdrop of the late '80s in the sultry Deep South, 'Hap and Leonard' is a darkly humorous tale of friendship, fraught romance, and fugitive treasure. Down-on-his-luck Hap Collins, an ex-con with a heart still aching for his enchanting ex-wife Trudy, is swept into a whirlpool of adventure when Trudy reappears with tantalizing tales of a sunken treasure. Joining this unpredictable ride is Leonard Pine, Hap's unlikely confidante - an openly gay black Vietnam War veteran whose temper flares as fiercely as his disdain for Trudy's seductive scheming. The duo find themselves entangled in a maelstrom of chaos as their simple pursuit of riches spirals into a bloody frenzy. This thrilling swamp noir blends the intensity of a murder mystery with the eccentric charm of washed-up revolutionaries, ruthless psycho killers, and the ever-looming presence of the law. As the plot unravels, 'Hap and Leonard' reveals itself to be a riveting exploration of friendship and survival, where lost loot is just the beginning.
