In the heart of Buenos Aires, a wealthy Argentine family, the Acunas, abide by an age-old tradition: the daughters must wed in sequence of their age. When their eldest daughter ties the knot, the younger sisters eagerly nudge Maria, the second eldest, towards matrimony, as they have groomed their chosen partners for their turn. Yet Maria remains aloof, her heart untouched by any suitor. Her father, Eduardo Acuna, a man of romantic ideals, weaves a tale of a secret admirer to kindle love's flame in Maria. He showers her with anonymous love letters and flowers, inventing an elusive "mystery man" to capture her heart. His plan? To find a suitor worthy of his daughter's hand and have him step into the role of the enigmatic lover. However, fate tosses a curveball into this well-laid plan when Robert Davis, a charismatic American dancer seeking his break in Buenos Aires, crosses paths with Maria.
