Plot

In the throes of heartbreak after his girlfriend Desiree's abrupt departure, Zia finds solace in suicide, slashing his wrists in desperation. However, death is far from the peaceful oblivion he'd anticipated. He awakens in the stark, barren purgatory of the Beyond, a peculiar limbo populated by fellow suicides and littered with discarded tires, scorched cars, and forsaken sofas. The Beyond, a grim mockery of life, is even more desolate than the realm of the living. In this dreary afterlife, Zia finds employment in Kamikaze, a lonely pizzeria, and shares his existence with an eccentric roommate. His monotonous afterlife is jolted when he learns from a past acquaintance that Desiree, too, has followed his path, having committed suicide a few months after his own demise. Driven by a newfound purpose, Zia embarks on a poignant journey to find Desiree. He's joined by Eugene, a Russian guitarist who met his end on stage, electrocuted mid-performance. Along their desolate path, they encounter Mikal, a hitchhiker stubbornly asserting that her presence in the Beyond is a cosmic mistake, a victim of an overdose and not a suicide. She is determined to find the elusive People in Charge and rectify her misplaced fate. Their melancholic expedition leads them to Kneller's camp, where the mundane and miraculous intertwine, casual wonders are commonplace, and whispers of a miraculous king echo. Amongst these peculiarities, Eugene discovers a tender affection for Nanuk. As Zia and his motley crew traverse the bleak landscape of the Beyond, the question lingers — can Zia reunite with Desiree in this purgatorial realm? And if he does, then what? In this realm where life and death intertwine, hope persists, reminding us that even in the face of death, the human spirit continues its relentless pursuit of connection and redemption.
