In the heartland of America, our young and uneducated heroine, Novalee Nation (Natalie Portman) - a seventeen-year-old trailer park dweller with a baby on the way - embarks on a life-altering journey. Pregnant and superstitious, she sets off from Tennessee with her neglectful boyfriend, Willie Jack Pickens (Dylan Bruno), in hopes of a new life in California. However, destiny has other plans as she is abandoned with just $5.55 to her name in the quaint town of Sequoyah, Oklahoma. Alone and penniless, Novalee seeks refuge in the most unlikeliest of places - a local Walmart.
