Plot

In the bustling heart of New York, the lives of a shrewd street girl, Mae (Carole Lombard), and a noble-hearted taxicab driver, Jimmy Doyle (Pat O'Brien), become entwined in an unexpected romance. Overlooking the shadows of Mae's past, Jimmy, with an unwavering resolve, is committed to transforming her into an honest woman. As they navigate the mazes of their relationship, they find themselves caught in a web of financial adversities that test their bond. In a desperate attempt to overcome their monetary struggles, Mae returns to a hotel notorious for its illicit activities, to retrieve a loan she once extended to a fellow street-walker. This act, however, misleads Jimmy into believing she has returned to her old ways, creating a rift in their relationship. The plot thickens when Mae becomes embroiled in a chilling murder mystery, resulting in her arrest and subsequent internment. With her innocence hanging in the balance, she is thrust into a court trial that could potentially shatter their shared dreams of a better future. As the suspense unfolds, Virtue (1932) takes viewers on a compelling ride through love, trust, redemption, and the quest for truth.
