The flamboyant Broadway director, Oscar Jaffe (John Barrymore), is as larger-than-life as the stars he creates. He's a maestro of grandiosity, a connoisseur of charisma, and a puppeteer of talent. Yet, no star shines brighter than his discovery, the fiery and headstrong Lily Garland (Carole Lombard). Once under Oscar's guiding hand, Lily's star ascends rapidly, capturing the eye of Hollywood and leaving Oscar in her dazzling wake.
