Turistas (2006)

In the intoxicatingly vibrant yet treacherously unpredictable landscapes of Northeastern Brazil, American siblings Alex and Bea embark on a thrilling backpacking sojourn, joined by their loyal friend Amy. Their journey intertwines with the equally adventurous paths of Finn and Liam, two British mates of wild abandon, and Pru, an Australian wanderer with a spirit as untamed as the land itself. Their camaraderie is tested when their cross-country bus teeters off a cliff, a heart-stopping moment that leaves them stranded on a seemingly paradisiacal beach. Underneath the sun-kissed sky, they cross paths with Kiko, a seemingly amiable Brazilian teenager who introduces them to the local life. As they lose themselves in a whirl of beer, funk music, and laughter, they fall victim to a sinister ploy, waking up stripped of their possessions and vulnerable in the heart of a foreign land. Desperately seeking aid, they stumble upon an unwelcoming village, their plight only deepening as they clash with the locals. Salvation appears in the form of Kiko, who guides them to an isolated cabin nestled deep in the jungle, a refuge owned by his enigmatic "uncle". Their relief, however, is short-lived as the night reveals the cabin's true nature. Unbeknownst to them, their refuge is a lair for a nefarious black market operation, led by the chillingly ruthless Dr. Zamora. Their sanctuary turns into a theatre of horror as they become the unwilling donors in a gruesome trade of human organs, a twisted retribution for the exploitation of Brazil's land and people by foreign invaders. Caught in a nightmarish web of deceit and violence, the backpackers must fight for survival against a backdrop of paradise turned hellish, their captors seeing them as nothing more than sacrificial tokens in a deadly game of retribution. Turistas is a chilling exploration of the tension between the allure of uncharted territories and the lurking dangers that lie beneath the surface, where every step towards adventure could lead you further into the jaws of terror.
