Plot

"Trailing the Killer," despite its ominous title, is a thrilling tale of nature's game of cat and dog set against the pristine backdrop of the Northwest wilderness. The 'trailer' is not a person but a dog with intelligence and wit rivaling that of the legendary Rin-Tin-Tin - his name is Caesar. As the story unfolds, Caesar navigates the forest's ebb and flow, confronting a rattlesnake, communing with his she-wolf mate and their offspring, and observing the fastidious rituals of a food-washing raccoon. These picturesque scenes beautifully capture the serenity and rawness of the wild, interspersed with moments of heart-stopping action. Caesar's true test comes when he must save a humble sheepherder, Pierre, from the claws of a ferocious mountain lion, proving that he is indeed a force to be reckoned with. While the title "Trailing the Killer" may have been rechristened as "Call of the Wilderness" for its 16mm school market release, the essence remains: a captivating tale of survival, camaraderie, and the unyielding spirit of nature, as seen through the eyes of an extraordinary canine hero. This film beautifully combines the suspense of a hunt with the gentler, awe-inspiring aspects of animal life, leaving a lasting impression on its viewers.
