Plot

In the mystical realm of a Prague attic, where discarded relics transform into vibrant life, the beautifully crafted, Czech language animation, 'Toys in the Attic', unfolds. This enchanting world, teeming with toys and trinkets, is a poignant reflection of the Cold War era that left an indelible mark on director Barta and his homeland, the Czech Republic. The attic is a realm divided; to the west lies the land of joyous toys, a haven of happiness and play, while the east is the domain of malevolence, ruled with an iron fist by the despotic Head of State. This sinister ruler, with his army of wicked minions, insects, and decaying vegetables, casts a long shadow over the once harmonious attic. In this world of contrasts, a radiant doll named Buttercup resides in an old trunk, alongside her loyal companions - the gallant marionette, Sir Handsome, the endearing Teddy Bear, a Mechanical Mouse with a heart of gold, and the malleable, plasticine being, Laurent. When the malevolent Head of State abducts the beloved Buttercup into the Land of Evil, it catapults her friends into a daring adventure. Braving the perilous journey across the international boundary of the attic, these unlikely heroes set off on a thrilling quest to rescue Buttercup. Their journey is as wondrous as it is fraught with danger, ultimately testing the limits of their courage and camaraderie. Will they succeed in their daring mission, or will the Head of State's evil rule prevail? 'Toys in the Attic' captivates with its tale of bravery, friendship, and the enduring power of innocence.
