Plot

In the quaint, picturesque town of Connecticut, love blossoms between high school sweethearts Max Doyle and Jessica Carpenter. Their young hearts beat fervently for each other, and their future is meticulously mapped out – a shared journey to Harvard after graduation. However, fate throws a wrench in their well-laid plans when Jess, an overachieving prodigy, secures a place at Harvard but Max's admission is put on hold. He is, however, accepted into five other institutions, none of which lie within the 300-mile radius of Jess's anticipated life in Harvard. Their love, resilient and determined, leads them down an unexpected path – a youthful engagement. They aspire to mirror the blissful marital life of Max's parents, who wedded young, and challenge the societal notion that age is a prerequisite for martial happiness. This is especially poignant against the backdrop of Jess's parents' acrimonious divorce. They insist that their youthful love could foster a marriage more harmonious than that of Jess's parents. Their impending nuptials divide their parents, who, despite their fondness for their future son-in-law and daughter-in-law, are torn over the idea of supporting such a young union. This is particularly significant for Jess, a minor who requires parental consent. Should they manage to tie the knot, they are confronted with a difficult choice: to endure a long-distance relationship, for Jess to compromise her Harvard dreams to join Max, or for Max to relocate to Boston and work while awaiting his admission to Harvard. As they navigate these adult dilemmas, their relationship is stretched to its limit. Jess, pursuing her dream to become an orthopedic surgeon at Harvard, inadvertently drifts towards Carter, a talented guitarist and fellow student. Simultaneously, Max’s firm resolve to join college wavers as he grapples with a construction job and the loneliness of a long-distance relationship. His change of heart sparks a conflict, triggering a test of their love and commitment. As they stand at the crossroads of their youth and adulthood, will Max and Jess be able to weather these storms and prove their skeptics wrong, or will they crumble under the weight of their choices, validating the claim that they are indeed too young to marry? Their story unravels as a poignant exploration of young love, responsibility, and the trials of adulthood.
