Plot

In the gripping tale of "Too Young The Hero" (1988), we follow the audacious journey of 12-year-old Calvin Graham, a youth who, with a visage belying his tender years, fabricates his age to enlist in the Navy following the infamous Pearl Harbor attack. Despite the obstacles of his youth, Graham's exceptional valor during the Battle of Guadalcanal earns him the coveted Purple Heart. However, the respect and camaraderie he savors in the heart of battle are short-lived. A change in command sees Graham under the jurisdiction of an officer whose animosity toward him is palpable. When Graham requests leave to attend a funeral, he's granted a pass insufficient to cover the distance to and from his ship. Upon his return, a cruel twist of fate awaits. An unfortunate misunderstanding sees him labeled a deserter, which leads him into an unanticipated nightmare. Instead of the familiar confines of his ship, Graham is directed to a detention center for deserters. His world crumbles as he endures a barrage of indignities, his whereabouts unknown to his comrades. "Too Young The Hero" is a heart-wrenching true story of bravery, deception, and the harsh realities of war seen through the eyes of a child. This film masterfully explores the tumultuous journey of a young hero navigating the stormy seas of World War II, his youth both a shield and a sword in his fight for survival and justice.
