In the shadow of a world on the brink of conflict, a brash and self-centered young man, Chris Winters, enlists in the US Marines prior to America's involvement in World War II. Raised under the influence of military lineage, Chris, despite his expulsion from a prestigious military academy, carries the potential to develop into an exemplary soldier, if only he could trade his irreverence for dedication. Sergeant Dixie Smith, a seasoned veteran who fought alongside Chris's father in World War I, is tasked with molding raw recruits like Chris into disciplined Marines. However, Chris anticipates a smooth sail due to his father's legacy and his frivolous nature leads him on a pursuit of love rather than honor. His heart succumbs to the allure of the stunning and off-limits nurse, Mary Carter, niece of a high-ranking major.
