Time After Time (2011)

In the small, unchanging town of Glenville, Richard Kerm, a restless thirty-year-old investigative journalist, makes his first visit since leaving a decade ago. Abandoning school at sixteen, he had found his calling at The Eagle, the local newspaper, under the guidance of editor Burt Delfino. At nineteen, he left everything behind - his hometown, his job, and his then-fiancée, Jackie Bell, the mayor's daughter. He made a promise to return to Jackie after his first pay raise, a promise he left unfulfilled as he jumped from one medium-sized newspaper to another, driven by an insatiable dissatisfaction. Now, after a career-shattering incident at his current job at the Tulsa Standard Bearer, Richard finds himself inexplicably drawn back to Glenville. He discovers that time has stood still - Delfino still runs The Eagle, and Jackie, now the mayor, runs both the town and the family restaurant. Despite her simmering resentment towards Richard, Jackie has moved on with her life, dating their former classmate, now Dr. Jeff Farley. A new face in town is the enigmatic fifty-five-year-old Dick Woodstein, a fellow journalist with a fondness for meatloaf and an uncanny number of similarities with Richard - including sharing the same birthday, albeit 25 years apart. As Richard slowly uncovers the startling truth, he is forced to confront the reality that Dick is actually his future self, returned to steer him onto the right path. His mission: to ensure that Richard wins back Jackie's heart, a task complicated by her existing relationship with Jeff and the romantic attention of another former classmate, Anna Palindrome. But as Richard fights to rekindle his lost love, he discovers that his future self has more complex reasons for returning. Tied to Jackie's role as mayor and Richard's flailing career, these ulterior motives present a double-edged sword - a wrong move could destroy their relationship, while inaction could ruin their futures. As Richard grapples with these revelations, he must decide whether to risk everything once again or confront the consequences of his past choices.
