Thunder Mountain (1935)

In the rugged expanses of Thunder Mountain, fortune seekers Kal Emerson (George O'Brien) and his companion Steve Sloan (Dean Benton) hide a golden secret, yet lack the finance to dig it up. Their luck takes a turn when Kal gallantly rescues Sydney Blair (Barbara Fritchie), a damsel in distress, from a drunken miner's advances. Touched by the act, Sydney persuades her wealthy father, Samuel Blair (Edward LeSaint), to finance the adventurous duo. As Kal and Steve strike gold, Kal departs to fetch Sydney and her father, leaving Steve to file their claim. Along the journey, a romance blossoms between Kal and Sydney, who feigns affection believing Kal's wealth is imminent. However, upon their return, they discover a bustling mining town commanded by the cunning Rand Leavitt (Morgan Wallace), who now owns their claim. Betrayed and isolated, Kal finds his allies dwindle, Sydney included, leaving only "Nugget" (Frances Grant), a dance-hall girl secretly smitten with him. As Kal readies to challenge Leavitt in the miner's court, Steve resurfaces with a harrowing tale of Leavitt's sabotage, only to be silenced by murder before he can testify. Faced with Steve's death and Leavitt's growing power, Kal defiantly orders Leavitt and his henchman, Cliff Borden (William Bailey), to vacate the town. When Borden falls victim to Leavitt, a heated manhunt ensues, culminating in a deadly clash atop Thunder Mountain, just as the mountain itself threatens to crumble under the weight of its own secrets.
