Plot

In the sleepy beachfront town of Eden Landing, California, a dark mystery unfurls when the lifeless body of Jenny Campbell, a thirty-nine-year-old divorcée, is discovered on the shore. Found with her trusted Doberman, Murphy, the initial suspicions point towards a fatal mauling by the pet. However, the arrival of Police Chief Abel Marsh, returning from Los Angeles, steers the investigation in a startling new direction. Battling against a cash-strapped police department and a death that reeks of foul play, Abel's forensic findings reveal Jenny's death to be a murder, cunningly disguised as a drowning in salt water. With the discovery of her pregnancy, a stark contradiction to her estranged ex-husband's claim of her being a lesbian, the plot thickens. As the investigation deepens, Abel crosses paths with the charming veterinary nurse Kate Bingham, a recent arrival from New York City. Despite his aversion to dogs, Abel forms an unlikely bond with Murphy under Kate's guidance, unraveling a layered narrative of relationships, secrets, and deception centered on Jenny. A peculiar photograph found in Jenny's house and the well-trained Murphy become Abel's primary leads, adding intrigue to the twisted mystery. However, Abel's pursuit of truth is obstructed by the ambitious Sheriff Daniel Streeter, who lusts for control over the investigation and seems determined to undermine Abel at every turn. The once tranquil town of Eden Landing becomes a chessboard for power, deceit, and murder, as Abel races against time to solve the enigma of Jenny's death and unearth the true master in a town where they only kill their masters.
