Underdog (2007)

In the bustling metropolis of Capitol City, an everyday beagle named Shoeshine lives an ordinary life as a bomb-sniffing watchdog. After a mishap at the mayor’s office that costs him his job, Shoeshine's fate takes an extraordinary twist. He falls into the clutches of a mad scientist who, in a reckless experiment, injects him with a mysterious elixir. The unanticipated outcome? Shoeshine is granted superhuman abilities, including the power to speak and the strength of a superhero. Fleeing from the scientist’s grasp, Shoeshine is adopted by Dan Unger, an ex-cop turned security guard, and his moody 12-year-old son, Jack. The pair soon discover Shoeshine’s secret abilities, and the dog, rechristened Underdog, pledges to use his newfound powers to protect Capitol City, earning the adoration of its citizens. However, the vile scientist, Simon Barsinister, continues his relentless pursuit of Underdog with the sinister goal of seizing control of the city. Meanwhile, Jack, trying to navigate the choppy waters of adolescence, finds a spark of romance with a girl who has a dog named Polly. Underdog, too, becomes smitten with Polly, adding a dash of canine love to the mix. As Barsinister's evil plan escalates, it becomes clear that it will take the combined efforts of Underdog, Jack, Dan, and their new friends to thwart the threat looming over Capitol City. In a tail-wagging tale of heroism, friendship, and love, Underdog raises the question: Will every dog, even an underdog, have his day?
