Plot

In the heart of Brooklyn, April Epner, a 39-year-old Jewish-American elementary school teacher, stands at the precipice of change. Her life, woven with the threads of a ten-month marriage to her best friend and fellow schoolteacher, Ben Green, is unraveling. April's longing for a child, a daughter she feels destined to have, is yet to be fulfilled. Her refusal to consider adoption is rooted in her complex relationship with her domineering adoptive mother, Trudy, and the perceived difference in the bond shared with her biological son and April's brother, Dr. Freddy Epner. When Ben, overwhelmed by the responsibilities of marriage, seeks a divorce, April's life takes a dramatic turn. Ben's abrupt departure from school leaves April grappling with his class until a replacement is found. The turbulence intensifies with the sudden passing of Trudy. At her funeral, April encounters a stranger, Alan, who reveals himself to be the representative of her biological mother, Bernice Graves, a minor celebrity and local daytime talk show host. With Bernice's entry into her life, April is pulled into a whirlwind of emotions. In the midst of this chaos, she finds herself drawn towards Frank, a shy yet intriguing British author and the divorced father of one of her students. As April navigates her growing affection for Frank, she is caught in a web of past and present, comparing Trudy with Bernice, and Ben with Frank. April's life is further complicated when she discovers she's pregnant with Ben's child, while her biological clock relentlessly ticks away. With her life in flux, April must decide who she wants to be as a mother and as a woman in love. She must reconcile her past with the present, her expectations with reality, and decide the future she wants for herself and her unborn child. The movie "Then She Found Me" is a poignant exploration of love, motherhood, and self-discovery, set amidst the complexities of life.
