Plot

In the vibrant heart of Paris, 1984, Manu, an endearing provincial gay youth, relocates from his small-town life to the promises of the city. Welcomed by his opera-singing sister, he embarks on a life of unrestrained passion and freedom. His path intertwines with Adrien, an older doctor, who introduces him to the finer nuances of Parisian life, yet Manu remains resistant to any romantic entanglements. Simultaneously, a narrative of strained marriage unfolds; Mehdi, a Parisian vice detective of Maghreb descent, grapples with his wife Sarah's indifference towards their newborn child. Sarah, a writer lost in the throes of motherhood, finds solace in her summer cabin, a place where their lives intersect with Manu's. During a shared seaside holiday, Mehdi rescues Manu from drowning, igniting a clandestine love affair, intense yet fleeting. As this passionate rendezvous dissipates, Manu, now working a menial job at a camping ground, finds himself diagnosed as sero-positive. His life takes a turn towards a different struggle, seeking comfort in the companionship of Adrien, a pioneer in France's medical AIDS assistance society. Meanwhile, an ominous shadow falls over the gay community of Paris, as a mysterious illness begins to spread. It's a year of trials and tribulations, marked by tests, anger, relief, ailments, separations, and the inevitable specter of death. From the summer of 1984 to the return of warmth in 1985, these characters, bound by their shared experiences, witness the transformation of happiness and the relentless march of life. As they reunite at Sarah's summer cabin a year later, they are a testament to resilience, love, and the shifting sands of time.
