In the heartland of Nebraska in 1911, we meet Grover Cleveland Alexander, fondly known as Alex. He's a down-to-earth country lad with dreams of settling down and farming to provide a stable life for his sweetheart, Aimee Arrants. However, an irresistible passion for baseball, particularly pitching, continuously lures him away from his agricultural ambitions. This focus on America's favorite pastime does not sit well with Aimee or her father, who perceive it as an escapade from responsibility. When an opportunity arises to pitch against a professional team, Alex seizes it with both hands, delivering a breathtaking performance that propels him into the professional baseball league. Despite an eye injury threatening to strike him out before his career even begins, Alex perseveres, turning back to farming to appease his now-wife, Aimee.
