Plot

In the vibrant yet veiled heart of 1980s Vienna, we find Ozren, a young Croatian boy living a simple life with his single mother, Silvija. Seeking the promise of a brighter future, Silvija left the crumbling shadows of Yugoslavia behind, her hopes pinned on this bustling Austrian city. As a waitress, Silvija's nights are committed to work, leaving Ozren under the tender care of his aunt, Ljiljana. But life in Vienna is not without its challenges. Amid the unforgiving echoes of the schoolyard, Ozren is labeled as the 'whore's son', a term he cannot comprehend but is nonetheless intrigued by. His mother, after all, is a waitress, isn't she? Thus begins Ozren's journey of understanding and self-discovery, as he grapples with the enigmatic reality of his mother's life, and the weight of a title he was too young to understand. The Whore's Son is a poignant tale of innocence, identity, and the complexity of motherhood under the harsh spotlight of societal judgment.
