The Whispering Shadow (1933)

In the shadowy underbelly of the city, a nefarious entity known as "The Whispering Shadow" orchestrates his criminal exploits through an army of henchmen, controlling them with the eerie power of radio and television rays. The Shadow's chilling voice resonates from every direction, a spectral presence that sees through doors, hears through walls, and delivers death from afar with his electrifying radio death ray. Enter Jack Foster (Malcolm McGregor), a man driven by the thirst for justice, seeking retribution for the murder of his brother Bud (George J. Lewis). His quest for the truth leads him to the enigmatic House of Mystery, a waxworks museum that breathes life into the macabre. Behind these chilling creations is the peculiar Professor Adam Strang (Bela Lugosi), whose wax figures pulse with an uncanny semblance of life, moving and speaking with lifelike precision. The plot thickens as each transport of Strang's wax figures by a massive moving-and-storage company is met with deadly attacks. The Whispering Shadow's henchmen strike, each assault chillingly heralded by the mysterious jamming of broadcasting equipment in the radio room high above the warehouse. The Shadow's true aim - the priceless jewels covertly stored within the warehouse's depths. Foster's list of suspects grows. There's the enigmatic Professor Strang with his disquieting waxworks, the mysterious Russian Alexia Steinbeck (Roy D'Arcy) who lords over the radio room, Jerome (Lafe McKee), a company official with an unnerving penchant for nocturnal visits to the radio room, and Jasper Slade (Bob Kortman), an internationally infamous jewel thief on the run. The Whispering Shadow could be any of them or none at all. The truth echoes in the whispers, and Jack Foster must unravel the mystery before the Shadow strikes again.
