In the heart of an antiquated nursing home, governed by an aging yet despotic director, the residents find solace in their shared evenings. The chill of October seeps through the walls, a grim reminder of the harsh winter to come. The nightly news broadcasts morbid forecasts, predicting a spike in fatalities due to the impending cold. One ominous night, a truckload of coffins arrives at the home, chilling the residents to their cores. They misinterpret this as a sign of their impending doom and, in a unanimous act of defiance, they make their daring escape.
As dawn breaks, the mass exodus is discovered. The shocked director, in a desperate scramble, summons the authorities. The truth is soon revealed: the coffins were merely surplus from a factory, set aside for temporary storage. What ensues is a frantic, high-stakes manhunt for the escapees, involving everything from ground patrols to helicopters.
Meanwhile, the elderly fugitives find themselves transported to a distant region of the country. Their journey leads them to a sparsely populated restaurant. After a disagreeable encounter with a rude waiter, they assert their dominance, tying him up before continuing their venture. Their path intersects with a solitary fisherman's humble abode, where they encounter an unexpected community of free-spirited hippies. Despite initial tensions, they form unlikely bonds. However, this newfound haven is short-lived as the authorities close in, leading to a tense and dramatic climax.
