Plot

In the arid sands of El Ksour, Tunisia, a perilous mission unfolds on April 5, 1943. A battalion of the Foreign Legion, laden with a treasure of gold bars, is tasked with transporting this immense fortune back to their homeland. As they traverse the treacherous terrain, they walk straight into the jaws of a waiting German ambush. The scene is a bloodbath, and only four brave souls survive. With the cunning and streetwise tactics of Sergeant Augagneur, they manage to counterstrike, keeping their precious cargo intact. Their journey gets more complex with the arrival of a bank manager accompanied by his alluring wife, and a German lieutenant who soon finds himself in French custody. In this web of deceit and survival, Augagneur harbors intentions of gold theft, while warrant officer Mahuzard remains steadfast in his commitment to duty. As fleeting alliances emerge and crumble, their numbers dwindle further, and the gold continues its journey southwards towards Betahoua. But the burning question remains: Who will possess the fortune when the desert winds cease to blow?
