Plot

In the twilight of their lives, Judy and Allen find their existence reduced to the mundanity of retirement, their days punctuated by puzzles and grocery trips to the local Fairway. During a routine outing, they cross paths with two of their son Andrew’s former high school teachers who extend an offer for him to return to New York to teach. Judy, masking the sting of her estranged relationship with Andrew, assures them she will relay the message. In the following day, a tide of regret and longing engulfs Judy, culminating in a sudden resolve to mend the frayed ties with her son - not through a mere phone call, but a face-to-face reconciliation. However, her fear of flights necessitates a cross-country journey by road to Los Angeles. Unsuspectingly caught in this whirlwind of impromptu adventure are Judy and Allen's unmarried daughters, Emily and Maggie, who initially joined for a simple trip to the beach. As Allen navigates the sprawling American landscape, the family is propelled into a tumultuous journey of self-discovery and confrontation, unearthing buried familial and marital grievances. In this odyssey, every mile brings them closer not just to Andrew, but also to the stark truths hidden beneath the surface of their seemingly ordinary lives.
