Plot

In the heart of Majdal Shams, the largest Druze village in the politically charged Golan Heights along the Israeli-Syrian border, a unique love story unfolds. Our heroine, Mona, a Druze bride, is betrothed to Tallel, a television comedian from the bustling Revolution Studios in Damascus, Syria. Their love is unique, a bond formed without ever meeting in person due to Israel's occupation of the area since 1967. Upon crossing the border to marry Tallel, Mona will surrender her undefined nationality, severing her ties with her homeland forever. Mona's family is a complex tapestry of diverse characters. Her father, Hammed, is a fervent political activist supporting Syria, perpetually under the scrutinizing gaze of the Israeli government. Hatten, her eldest brother, was excommunicated from Majdal Shams after marrying a Russian woman eight years prior, a decision that also put him at odds with his father. Marwan, another brother, is a wolf trader who has made Italy his home. Amal, Mona's only sister, is a mother of two teenagers, grappling with a faltering marriage to Amin, while harboring dreams of higher education. As the family convenes for Mona's wedding, a maelstrom of bureaucracy threatens to upend the ceremony. The Syrian Bride paints a vivid tapestry of love, loyalty, and political tension, pulling the viewer into a world where tradition clashes with modernity, and personal dreams are often at odds with societal expectations.
