Evening (2007)

As twilight descends upon the life of Ann Lord (Vanessa Redgrave), she finds herself caught in the ebb and flow of memory and emotion. Her daughters, the contented Constance Haverford (Natasha Richardson) and the restless Nina Mars (Toni Collette), are drawn bedside, disturbed by Ann's repeated utterance of a single name - "Harris". This enigma, unknown to them, becomes the catalyst for a journey into their mother's past, and a reflection on their own lives. In her mind's eye, Ann is transported back to a pivotal summer some fifty years prior. She was then Ann Grant (Claire Danes), a vibrant young woman and aspiring singer from New York City, chosen as the maid of honor for her dearest college friend, Lila Wittenborn's (Mamie Gummer) high-society wedding in Newport. Lila, jittery and anxious, leans on Ann for support, drawing her into the heart of the Wittenborn family and closer to Lila's irrepressible brother, Buddy (Hugh Dancy). Amidst the wedding preparations, a life-altering encounter awaits Ann. The introduction to a family friend, the war veteran and newly-graduated doctor, Harris Arden (Patrick Wilson), kindles a passionate flame that will forever alter the course of Ann's life.
