Plot

In the emotionally-charged aftermath of World War I, Europe, 1922 becomes the playground for a group of disillusioned American expatriates, the 'lost generation.' Among them are Jake Harris, a newspaperman grappling with a war-inflicted impotence, and the stunning yet tormented party-girl, Lady Brett Ashley, whose love for Jake is tragically unfulfilled due to her physical desires they can't satisfy. Their lives, tangled with a blend of regret and desire, are further complicated by the presence of Mike, Brett's barely consequential fiancé, and Robert and Bill, fellow writers sharing the same existential angst. These lost souls drift through the cafés of Paris, their berets a symbol of their nomadic existence, consumed by liquor, fleeting affairs, and a restless pursuit of satisfaction. Their journey of self-discovery takes a dramatic turn when they decide to escape the confining Parisian streets for the sun-drenched and blood-stirred arenas of Pamplona, to witness the primal spectacle of bull-fighting. Amidst this vibrant and raw setting, their personal battles and romantic entanglements come to a head, presenting a poignant exploration of love, loss, and the desperate search for meaning in a world forever changed by war.
