In the throes of financial desperation, three unlikely companions—Christa, Wolf, and Werner—orchestrate a daring bank heist, their minds set on saving a debt-ridden daycare. Their plan, however, quickly unravels as Wolf is apprehended and Werner falls under the police's suspicion, leaving Christa with the spoils of their crime and the scent of the law hot on her trail. Desperate and on the run, Christa and Werner plead with Hans, a man of the cloth, to cleanse their ill-gotten gains and funnel them to the struggling kindergarten. But when Hans declines, they turn to Ingrid, a friend of Christa's, who faces her own set of trials when the school rejects the tainted funds. Werner's world is further shattered by personal tragedy, and in an unexpected twist, Hans helps Christa escape to a commune in Portugal. The idyllic reprieve is disrupted when Ingrid pays a visit, their deepening bond causing unease within the collective. Bowing to pressure, Christa abandons her sun-drenched sanctuary and reenters the shadows in Germany. But the relentless police force isn't the only entity hunting her. Lena, a bank clerk and witness to their audacious crime, is driven by a mysterious interest in Christa, setting the stage for her profound second awakening.
