Set against the backdrop of Wellville, in the heart of Battle Creek, unfolds the eccentric tale of the affluent Dr. John Harvey Kellogg (Sir Anthony Hopkins). A pioneer ahead of his era, Dr. Kellogg runs a lavish health retreat for the rich and famous. His revolutionary regimen, rooted in stringent vegetarianism and devoid of sexual or sensual indulgence, offers a rich tapestry of unconventional therapies. From laughter therapy to rigorous outdoor exercises and invasive body cleansing techniques, including his signature invention of corn flakes and a controversial anal yogurt cure, Dr. Kellogg's methods are as audacious as they are intriguing. Swept into this whirlwind of 'wellness' are the incredulous William Lightbody (Matthew Broderick) and his ailing wife, Eleanor (Bridget Fonda). Compelled by his wife, the skeptical William embarks on this journey to purge his "polluted" body. However, their arrival at the health farm triggers a cascade of unforeseen events. As the couple succumbs to the charms of other more accessible individuals, their relationship is put to the test. Meanwhile, Kellogg's rebellious adopted son, George (Dana Carvey), surfaces as an unrefined embarrassment among his more than thirty siblings. Paid to maintain distance, George's affiliation becomes an unexpected boon for the anxious newcomer, Charles Ossining (John Cusack). Inherited from his aunt, Ossining's investment in the hollow health food company "Per-fo" becomes a wild chase for success with George's notorious name and a former Wellville employee. As the plot thickens, a fatal mishap during an electric therapy session, coupled with the death of various patients, sends shockwaves through Wellville. Amidst the ensuing chaos, William's initial skepticism morphs into outright panic. The Road to Wellville is a vibrant and madcap adventure through an unconventional health oasis, churning with human desires, inventive treatments, and a dash of the absurd.
