Plot

At the tender age of ten, Owens is thrust into the harsh world of survival when he's orphaned by the death of his saintly mother. Taken in by the neighboring Conways, his life is soon mired in the constant fog of Jim Conway's incessant drinking, forcing the young Owens onto the unforgiving streets. By seventeen, he has internalized the brutal lesson; might is right. As he crosses the threshold of his 25th year, Owens has forged his own path, leading a gang of similarly lost souls, their days consumed by gambling and drinking. It's a life of grit and grime until the arrival of Marie, a beacon of hope, into the gangster-infested part of town. Struck by her presence, Owens falls for the enchanting Marie, his hardened heart softening in the face of her innocence. Unable to voice his feelings, Owens seeks refuge at her settlement house, striving to find education and inspiration, yearning to shed his hardened exterior. Marie, the pretty school teacher and social worker, unwittingly becomes his guide on this transformative journey. Under her influence, the erstwhile leader of the Bowery gang begins to rediscover the remnants of goodness buried deep within him, becoming as innocent as a child amidst angels. But the specter of his past life haunts him. As he navigates his newfound path, he is forced to confront the shadow of his former self. The story of The Regeneration is a captivating tale of redemption and struggle, showing the power of influence and the relentless tug of the past. Will Owen completely shed his old skin, or will he be drawn back into the mire? The answer lies within the unfolding drama of this riveting narrative.
