As the North American Civil War draws to a close, unscrupulous weapon manufacturers find a lucrative business opportunity in selling repeating rifles to the indigenous Cheyenne tribes, employing the wily John Lattimer as their middleman. Amidst this turmoil, Wild Bill Hickok, a renowned gunslinger, is journeying alongside the fiery Calamity Jane and the charismatic scout William "Buffalo Bill" Cody, who, along with his young wife Louisa, dreams of a peaceful life managing a hotel in the bustling Hays City.
Their travel is disrupted when they stumble upon their guide, Breezy, gravely injured by arrows, who whispers horrifying tales of a besieged fort fallen under the onslaught of Cheyenne warriors armed with these deadly repeating rifles.
