As the 19th century draws to a close, the grand city of Petersburg is consumed by a fervor for the mystical and obscure. Olivia Reed, a renowned British medium, steps onto Russian soil, her spiritualistic sessions luring scores of curious spectators. Yet, amidst this occult fascination, a chilling pattern of ritualistic homicides haunts the city. Innocent girls are vanishing off the streets, their mutilated bodies emerging in the city's darkest corners. In the heart of this enigma is the young and determined police officer Rostov, aided by his faithful assistant Ganin. As the grim tally of victims grows, so does the complexity of their pursuit. The trail of suspicion, twisted and shadowy, ultimately leads Rostov to Olivia. In a desperate bid to decipher the cryptic killings, he turns to her, banking on her reputed - or perhaps imagined - ability to commune with the departed. Rostov's hope? That Olivia's spectral summons could shine a light on their elusive killer, bringing them one step closer to unveiling the twisted mind behind Petersburg's reign of terror.
