Plot

Swept up by the biting winds of 1952, Inuit hunter Tivii is torn away from the icy embrace of his native land and thrust into an alien world, a sanatorium in Quebec City. Ravaged by tuberculosis and the gaping void of his family's absence, Tivii is ensnared in a throbbing desolation. Struggling with the unfamiliar French language and a life vastly different from his own, he finds himself teetering on the edge of despair. His stalwart nurse, Carole, recognizes that the most lethal venom to Tivii's spirit is not his physical affliction, but the crushing weight of his loneliness. In a desperate attempt to rescue Tivii from his gloom, Carole orchestrates the transfer of a young orphan named Kaki to the sanatorium. Kaki, also ailing, is a bridge between two worlds, fluent in both the Inuit and French tongues. A bond blossoms between the two, nurtured by shared stories and mutual understanding. As Tivii imparts his rich culture to Kaki, he ignites a spark of life within himself, rekindling his fading pride and vitality. In Kaki's bright eyes, Tivii finds not only a reflection of his own lost youth but a beacon of hope. A daring plan crystallizes in Tivii's heart: to adopt Kaki, to return with him to their shared northern home, and to weave the boy into the fabric of his family. In this audacious dream, Tivii finds the will to fight, and the strength to live.
