The Martial Arts Kid (2014)

In the wake of his mother's death, troubled youth Robbie Oakes finds his life spiralling out of control. His weary grandmother, no longer able to tolerate his rebellious behavior, sends him to the sunny shores of Cocoa Beach, Florida, where his Aunt Cindy and Uncle Glen dwell. On his first night in this unfamiliar setting, he crosses paths with Rina at a local convenience store, only to be cornered by her domineering boyfriend, Bo. An unexpected encounter at Cindy's beachfront restaurant the following day reveals another bully, and Robbie witnesses firsthand Cindy's impressive martial arts prowess. Inspired and eager to leave his past behind, Robbie pleads with Glen to guide him through the path of martial arts, seeking not only self-defense skills but also a change in attitude and demeanor. Robbie's transformation is profound, yet Bo remains a thorn in his side. This tension escalates when Rina begins dating Robbie, and Bo's martial arts mentor, Kaine, emerges as an old acquaintance of Glen's. Despite their shared past, their contrasting views on the essence of martial arts make them adversaries. When Bo's bullying of Rina escalates, Robbie's newfound resolve is put to the ultimate test. Fueled by his training and a desire to protect, Robbie is faced with the decision of whether to stand up to Bo and, in doing so, determine the kind of person he truly wants to be.
