Plot

In the icy elegance of St. Moritz, Londoners Bob and Jill Lawrence, along with their blossoming daughter Betty, immerse themselves in a whirl of sporting competitions. Jill, an accomplished skeet shooter, and their affable French friend Louis Bernard, a daredevil ski-jumper, become entangled in a dance of friendship and competition. But one evening, amidst the infectious laughter and clinking glasses of a spirited party, a small pop echoes through the room. This sound, indistinguishable to most, is a gunshot aimed at Louis. As he breathes his last in Jill's arms on the dance floor, he entrusts her with a secret mission: to retrieve a brush from his hotel room, a seemingly mundane item that harbours a cryptic note within its handle. Reluctantly, Jill confides in Bob, who finds the brush, only to discover that a sinister adversary from the skeet competition, known only as Ramon, also seeks the note. With chilling determination, Ramon and his cohorts kidnap Betty, holding her life ransom for the coveted information hidden within the brush. The Lawrences are thrust into a heart-wrenching dilemma, caught between their daughter's safety and a dire warning from the British Foreign Office: Louis, in fact, was their spy, and the note is the linchpin to thwarting an impending assassination of a top foreign official that could ignite a brutal war. The Lawrence family returns to London without Betty, burdened by the knowledge that her life hangs by the thread of a note they refuse to relinquish. Joined by their steadfast ally Clive, they must navigate a treacherous path, balancing their desperate quest to rescue Betty and the looming threat of an assassination. As they follow the shadowy trail of the kidnappers, they learn the assassination is set to occur during a grand concert at the iconic Albert Hall. The stage is set, and it falls upon Jill to orchestrate a daring ploy to save not just her daughter, but potentially, the world.
