Plot

In the shadowy corridors of power, Senator J.C. Grant wields his influence like a deft marionettist, constantly pulling his wayward son David out of a myriad of troubles. Yet, David's reckless exploits escalate when he is ousted from college, plunging him deeper into a world of scandal and disgrace. One fateful night, a haze of alcohol clouds his judgement and he offers a nightclub cigarette girl a ride home. The night is punctuated by a horrific car accident that leaves the young woman fatally wounded, her life seeping away as a direct result of David's actions. Haunted by the ghastly event, David's memory is shrouded in a murky fog, leaving him oblivious to the tragic consequences of his actions. Nevertheless, the law catches up with him, and he is charged with manslaughter. In a desperate attempt to salvage his son's future, Senator Grant calls upon his influence once more, orchestrating the appointment of a respected yet vulnerable judge. This jurist, balanced precariously on the brink of bankruptcy, and overwhelmed by his wife's dwindling health, becomes the Senator's last hope to manipulate the scales of justice in his son's favor.
